Rosalía rejects accusations of “complicit silence” toward Gaza and calls for those with “power” to be identified.

Singer Rosalía on Wednesday rejected accusations of "complicit silence" regarding the situation in Gaza, where 60,000 people have already died due to famine and Israeli military attacks. These accusations were published on social media by Spanish fashion designer Miguel Adrover , which is why the Catalan artist called for "those who decide and have the power to act to be held accountable." The music industry has been particularly sensitive to the tragedy, with complaints from various artists and calls for a boycott of festivals funded by investment funds linked to Israel.
“I don't see how shaming each other is the best way to move forward in the fight for Palestinian freedom,” the singer wrote in a statement on her Instagram account, followed by 26.8 million people. “ It's terrible to see day after day how innocent people are murdered and how those who should be stopping this don't do so,” the Catalan singer added.
This Tuesday, Adrover, who has traditionally shunned fame and the media, even refusing to work with figures such as Kanye West , leaked an email he had sent to the artist's stylist on his Instagram account. In it, he refused to create a custom look for Rosalía due to her silence on Gaza. The designer believes the artist has not "publicly" supported Palestine and, although he acknowledges his admiration for her, he emphasized that silence "is complicity."

“Silence is complicity, and even more so when you have a loudspeaker where millions of people hear you sing. That's why you have the responsibility to use this power to denounce this genocide,” wrote Adrover. “Rosalía, this is nothing personal. I admire you for all your talent and everything you've achieved,” wrote Adrover, whose documentary The Designer is Dead premieres at Atlàntida Mallorca Film on August 1. The film reconstructs his story, from his rise on the New York scene to his gradual disappearance from the media spotlight. The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York features several of the designer's pieces, and he received the National Fashion Design Award in 2018 .
The singer has not hidden her “great sadness” over the controversy generated on social media and has justified herself by stating that the fact that she has not used her platform “in line with the style or expectations of others” does not mean “in any way” that she “does not condemn what is happening in Palestine .”
"Unfortunately, this text is not and will not be sufficient in a context of extreme violence such as the one currently occurring. Therefore, I would like to end with profound respect and gratitude to the people who truly act as NGOs, activists, volunteers, healthcare workers, cooperatives, associations, and journalists, dedicating their lives to helping this cause and many others," concludes the Catalan singer .
